Fishing Opportunities

Our fishing safaris cater for all fishing disciplines, whether you prefer fly fishing, spinning, trawling or bait fishing. The Zambezi River teems with Tiger fish with the occasional Bream also being landed. This ensures that every day on the water is filled with excitement, and fun.

  • Tiger Fishing: The thrill of hooking and landing a Tigerfish known for its strong, aggressive strikes, jumping and tail walking is the highlight of our safaris. Their strength and acrobatic antics when hooked makes that not every fish gets landed, making the challenge even more exciting. Tigerfish of 10lb + are often landed and even a 20 pounder is not impossible.

  • Bream Fishing: For those who prefer a different kind of challenge, bream fishing on one of the Zambezi’s tributaries offers an excellent alternative. With multiple species to target, Nembwe, Three Spot, Red Breasted and Hump Backed to name a few, to target anglers can enjoy action with fly, lures or spinners. Bream are very strong fighters and fish over 5 lbs are often landed.

Destinations and Highlights

The Kwando River: Located on the eastern bank of the Kwando River in Zambia, this remote area is known for its superb fishing opportunities. July 2015 marked the first time the Kwamashi stretch of the Kwando River was fished, and it quickly gained a reputation for its hard-fighting tigerfish. While it may not be the place for monster-sized tigers, the consistent action for fish in the 6-14 lb range is a highlight, especially for those who enjoy lure and fly fishing. Bream fishing here is also exceptional, with various species like Nembwe, three-spot, thinface, humpback, and redbreast bream all recorded. It’s a paradise for anglers using lures, spinners, and fly.

Zambezi Lodges: The Fishing lodges along the Zambezi River are known for its fantastic birdlife, beautiful, exquisite trees, stunning sunsets and of course great Tiger fishing. The varied river landscape includes islands, rapids and deep drop-offs, making is ideal for fly fishing, spinning and trawling. These lodges provide exclusive access to largely untouched sections of river, ensuring a tranquil and productive fishing experience.

Sioma Falls: Also known as Ngonye Falls, this is the second-largest waterfall on the Zambezi River. The deep, fast-flowing waters below the falls are perfect for those seeking large and aggressive tigerfish. Fishing here can be done from the rocky banks or by boat, offering a thrilling challenge for anglers looking to test their skills against some of the river’s most formidable inhabitants.

Over and above the fishing adventure, game and bird viewing can be just as exciting. Imagine fighting a Tigerfish while being observed by a pod of Hippo nearby or a Crocodile lying on the bank or swimming past the boat. Birding while fishing as well as in camp is exceptional with more than 200 species that frequent the area.
